TY - UNPB T1 - Citizen’s Charter of Demands for Inclusive and Just Urban Development: Defining the urban agenda 2019 Y1 - 2019 AB -

We are a group of people across different parts of the country involved in the questions of city and for whom is the urban meant for. We have been working with these questions in various forms, practices and opinion but united in idea of equality, just, plurality democratic republic of India.

Of late, deeply concerned how Indian cities and urbanization are projected as a panacea of the development challenges that we face as a nation. While the State and Civil Society has acknowledged through various policy measures and initiatives the increased rate and progress with which Indian cities are evolving, there has been less enquiry and action at the inequality perpetuated, unjustness in design and unsustainable growth of the urban in India. Cities and their fast-changing characteristics, while beneficial for a minority privileged groups, are becoming increasingly detrimental to the majority marginalized sections that live, work and shape our Indian cities. It is in this context that we – as number of civil society organizations, urban poor and worker collectives – wish to reshape and reimagine possibilities of making our cities and their future development more inclusive, just and sustainable, keeping Citymakers (urban poor and worker groups) and their rights at the centre of discourse and action.
