Over the past few years, FAAA has been engaged in evolving a constructive dialogue with its alma mater- CEPT University and School of Architecture. In the last few days, CEPT University has announced a proposal for another new addition to the Campus, The New Academic Hub designed by Christopher Beninger, to be built on our historically significant campus.
FAAA have received and observed several serious concerns, responses, and constructive criticism from various Alumni and individuals on different platforms in regards to the proposal. Suggestions have come in from around the globe, given the fact that the existing Campus is today acknowledged as being of Universal value, on the lines of projects like the Bahaus, etc. (Letter by Prof Alexander Tzonis (2015) and others.)

FAAA is committed to the betterment of CEPT University and its growth as a center of international excellence. The present concerns are over the approach taken by CEPT Management while proposing the New Academic Block which adversely curtails the North Lawns, overshadows the Sacred School of Architecture, apart from constructing on the Eco-sensitive Kund Area.

We at FAAA, feel that the core issue is to explore a new synergy between FAAA and CEPT to meet the new potential of growth that CEPT aspires for. This “Vision of CEPT University”, requires a much larger tract of land of about 100 acres or more - on the lines of several internationally recognized Universities like - ETH Zurich, NUS, IIT, IIM, etc.

A retrofitted Master Plan on the existing 8 acre Campus, alongside “Modern Heritage Buildings, as a part of the Iconic Campus” cannot address the new aspirations of growth of CEPT. Alumni have expressed their concerns that the physical densification by the new proposals/buildings takes away from the existing campus. This is a matter of serious concern for the Alumni.

In response, FAAA has reached out to the CEPT Governing Body and The Management Board, to reconsider the proposal and look into alternatives for growth and expansion, while respecting the spirit of the present Campus.

A copy of the letter sent is attached here.
