The diwan-e-am (Public audience hall) in the south wing was demolished in 1951 when part of it caved in. A Sikh period seh-dara (three-arched facade) was the only remaining feature. The seh-dara and its frescos were left untouched in the restoration.

The new building was constructed to house open and enclosed classrooms and a library.
