Vaav at Doshiwada ni pol

This vaav is compact in scale and sits within the dense fabric of the walled city. Built entirely in brick, it is contiguous to an old pol house with a balcony overlooking its well-shaft. The age and origin of this stepwell remain unknown and it was accessible in the past from the courtyard to its right, for use by the immediate community. While the Shiva temple adjacent to it is frequented by daily visitors, the stepwell as of today lies in a squalid state, serving as a neighbourhood dump.

Stepwells of Ahmedabad is sponsored by the Asian American Cultural Center (AACC), Yale School of Architecture Exhibitions Fund and Anthill Design. The research on these stepwells was initiated in 2015 as an initiative of Anthill Design.
