New Delhi: The Group of Ministers on Tuesday announced the dismantling
of the Police Memorial at Chankyapuri, Delhi, and proposed to construct
a new memorial after a due proposal to the Delhi Urban Arts Commission
and subsequent approval from the authorities concerned.
The Union Cabinet has approved a new plan for the controversial memorial
that suggests that the present site be retained for construction of a
new structure in 18 months.
NEW DELHI: After a three-month-long hunt, the police memorial near Teen
Murti Bhawan has finally found a new home. The structure, which was
built at a whopping cost of Rs 13 crore, will be shifted to the CRPF
camp in Greater Noida.
But it is still going to be a while before the structure can actually be
relocated. Engineers at the Central Public Works Department are working
out the cost of transportation and will be floating tenders once funds
are made available. ‘‘The whole process may take a couple of months,’’
says an engineer with the CPWD.
